Day 1: Ancient Village Charm · Where Lights Flicker at Dusk

In the early morning, we gathered at Shenzhen Pingshan Station. Colleagues helped each other with luggage, and the train car was already buzzing with energy—some were sharing breakfast, others flipping through food guides they had prepared in advance. As the train slowly departed, the cityscape faded away, giving way to the landscapes of Southern Fujian.

Upon arrival in Zhangzhou, our exclusive guide warmly welcomed us, and we began our exploration.

Stop 1: Daimei Ancient Village

We stepped into Daimei Ancient Village, known as the “No. 1 Village of Southern Fujian.” It is the largest and best-preserved ancient residential complex in Longhai District. The 276 traditional houses, with their swallow-tail ridges, stood in neat rows surrounded by clear waters. As we wandered among the red-brick buildings, some raised their phones to capture the elegant rooflines, while others listened intently to stories passed down through generations. Colleagues called out to each other to pose together under an ancient banyan tree: “Come on, the light is perfect here—let’s take a group photo!”The camera captured not just the scenery, but a cherished spring memory shared by the team.

Stop 2: Zhangzhou Ancient Town & The “Internet-Famous” Bridge

As dusk fell, we entered Zhangzhou Ancient Town. The street layout from the Ming and Qing dynasties remained intact, the stone paths gleaming with the patina of time. Our guide took us to taste a local favorite—A Fang Braised Noodles. The rich, savory broth coated the noodles perfectly, topped with crispy fried meat, squid, and braised egg. After just one bite, thumbs went up all around: “This is absolutely amazing!”We gathered around the small wooden tables, sharing spoonfuls of broth and bites of spiced rolls, our laughter echoing through the ancient streets.

Colleagues posed for photos in small groups—some striking playful poses, others capturing the flowing lights of the night scene. After dinner, we checked into the centrally located Zhangzhou Hotel, resting under the glow of the ancient town lights.

Yun Shui Yao Ancient Path:

Strolling along the path by the stream, we admired the thousand-year-old banyan trees shading the banks and listened to the creaking of waterwheels. A colleague bought some local fruit for everyone to share—it was refreshing and perfect for the mild afternoon heat.

Huaiyuan Lou:

We toured this exquisite double-ring circular tulou, one of the filming locations for the animated film Big Fish & Begonia. Everyone excitedly discussed scenes from the movie: “Look, this is where Chun must have run out!” “Come on, I want to take the same shot here!”Through the lens, the tulou’s round roof against the blue sky seemed to echo the film’s magic, as if a giant fish might appear at any moment.

With its azure sea and gentle breeze, colleagues in the vehicle eagerly began planning the next day’s seaside adventures. Stop 5: Fengdong Scenic Area (Wind Rock)

We visited the national 4A scenic area home to the Wind Rock. Known as the “Most Marvelous Rock in the World,” this massive boulder perches precariously on the coast, swaying with the wind or even a push from human hands, yet it has stood firm for a millennium. Everyone took turns trying to move the rock, joking with each other: “Not strong enough—let me give it a try!” Laughter mingled with the crashing waves. Afterwards, we paid respects at Guan Yu Temple, the ancestral temple for many such temples in Taiwan—a testament to the shared cultural roots across the strait. We wandered through the ancient city, discovered the natural sea cave “Hukong Diyu,” and searched for the reef formations featured in the *Journey to the West filming location.

Stop 6: Nanmen Bay & Sushan Mountain Ring Road

We arrived at Nanmen Bay, the filming location for the movie The Left Ear. The sea here is a tranquil blue, and the houses are painted in fresh, vibrant colors—every snapshot looks like a movie still. A colleague bought sea jelly  , a local specialty drink, which was cool and smooth with a faint, refreshing hint of seaweed. We sat on the seawall, enjoying the sea breeze and the drink, chatting about the highlights of the past few days—it was pure bliss.

We then took an electric sightseeing bus to the scenic Sushan Mountain Ring Road. This 8.53-kilometer road winds along the coast, its blue railings mirroring the azure sea.
